Our School
Our people
At Cedar Grove, children play an active role in their education, taking responsibility for themselves and others in ways that prepare them for the world beyond our school. We encourage students to develop their abilities in all areas of accomplishment: intellectual, artistic, social-emotional, and physical. We encourage a connection to nature. This is a close-knit community with hard working teachers and staff as well as supportive community members. We are motivated by a strong sense of common purpose – learning – striving to ensure that every member of the learning community is respected, cared for, listened to, and valued.
Our Land and building
Cedar Grove Elementary School is located on the lands of the First People here, presently known as the Skwxwú7mesh People. We are surrounded by nature’s beauty here and enjoy the grove of many beautiful red cedar trees for which the school is named. Our accessible playground makes for an engaging spot for the imagination with its variety of climbing structures, swings, and platforms. We have a story garden, an outdoor auditorium/classroom, a medicine wheel, and a school garden. Inside we have an expansive gymnasium, a music room, special education room, and a school library. Our school colours are green and black, our mascot is the eagle, and our school greeters are the beautifully carved reading gnomes.
